I have heard, and now am agreeing with the view that on the Cross, when Jesus was saying "God my God, why have you forsaken me!"
About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?")
Matt 27:46
Let me explain, on the Cross, Jesus for the first time in recorded history called God God, He always addressed him as the Father, even from age 12, he was saying he was at his Father's house. He always addressed God as the Father. So why change now? some people say that it was his humanity side, calling out to God. and interpreting how big the extend sin was and its effect, that even the Father turned his face away from Jesus, when the sin of the whole world was pinned on Him. This actually sound pretty good, and I have no problem with people believing this, but I have found what I think is the better explanation.
Back in Jesus days, Scriptures were not chapter-ed nor versed. meaning the way to refer to a particular segment of scripture, you do so by reading out the 1st line, and you go on reading. its like this. "To be or not to be....." what is the next line to that, "that is the question" Mac Beth, Shakespeare. and people will be saying that to tell you they are reading Macbeth. In the same way, Jesus was quoting scripture.
if you google " my God, My God why have you forsaken me". and viola! you will find matthew 27:46, and then you will find Psalms 22.
Jesus on the cross, was more likely referring to his fulfillment of prophesy. He was letting people know, "guys, check this out, The scripture was talking about me!"
the punch line is on verse 24
For he has not despised or scorned
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.
Psalm 22:24
God, the good God that we believe in, never left Jesus, He was with him the whole way. God didn't leave Jesus there to hang and die, he was there with him taking care of the results of sin, which was death. This was the master plan of God, to take back the earth's dominion. Dominion was given to man, and man got tricked and gave it away to satan, and as such the dominion must be gained back by Man. Its a legality thing. Hence Jesus the sinless man, came to paid the price of death. all this was in the master plan of God, Jesus knows it, the Holy Spirit knows it, but it was a mystery to satan and to the world, satan thinking he got him now! only to found out that was the move before check mate.
So why does all this matter? well one, I think because I think it is actually what happened, Jesus did intend to quote you Psalms 22. But more so than this, it gives you a better picture of the loving Father. Who sticks with you from the beginning till forever. When Jesus and the father was One, (John 10:30). The notion of ONE is not that it is One until something really bad happens, and we are no longer ONE. One is One. And as we are One like Jesus and the father is one. man! its depicts the Oneness we have with God. The father never leaves us no matters what! It gives a closer representation of the Good Father, our Good God.
